# Best Autonomous AI Agents for Enterprises: How to Choose

> The best autonomous AI agent for business: five checks to choose one, model API costs after GPT-4's retirement, and what Salesforce's Agentforce charges.

What is the best autonomous AI agent for business? An autonomous AI agent is software that uses a language model to complete a task on your behalf: it decides the next step, uses your systems to look things up and take action, and hands control back to a person when it cannot finish. The best one for your business does a job that needs judgment, works inside your real systems, is tested on your data, asks a person before risky actions, and has a monthly cost you can model before you sign.

## An autonomous AI agent for enterprises takes action instead of just answering

OpenAI's guide to building agents defines agents, the software this article calls autonomous AI agents, as "systems that independently accomplish tasks on your behalf". The same guide says simple chatbots, single-turn LLM apps and sentiment classifiers are not agents, because they do not use the model to control how the work gets done.

OpenAI's guide says tools extend an agent's capabilities by connecting it to the applications and systems underneath, which for enterprises and B2B companies means the ones they already run. OpenAI lists data tools that query systems like CRMs or read PDF documents, and action tools that send emails and texts, update a CRM record or hand a support ticket to a human. If support is your first use case, see how [an autonomous AI agent handles customer support](/blog/autonomous-ai-agent-customer-support).

## What to look for in the best autonomous AI agent for business: five checks

1. **The agent does a job that needs judgment.** OpenAI recommends prioritizing workflows that have resisted automation: complex decisions such as refund approvals, rules that have become hard to maintain, and work that depends on unstructured data like documents or conversations. For well-defined tasks, Anthropic (December 2024) notes that fixed workflows offer predictability and consistency, so a good system uses fixed steps where the task is fixed and the agent where it needs judgment.
2. **The agent works inside your systems.** Ask which of your systems it can read and which ones it can change.
3. **The agent is tested on your data.** OpenAI's guide says to set up evals, test sets that measure how well the agent does the job, to establish a performance baseline. Anthropic recommends extensive testing in a sandbox, a safe copy where mistakes never reach real customers, with the appropriate guardrails.
4. **A person approves the risky actions.** OpenAI says sensitive, irreversible or high-stakes actions should trigger human oversight until confidence in the agent grows, with canceling orders, authorizing large refunds and making payments as examples. OpenAI also recommends escalating to a human when the agent goes past its limit of retries.
5. **You know what it costs and who owns it.** Anthropic notes that agentic systems often trade speed and cost for better task performance. Ask for the monthly cost at your volume, and who keeps the code, the data and the accounts if you stop paying.

## GPT-4 is retired, so agent API costs now run on newer models

To budget an autonomous AI agent's API costs, price it on current models, because OpenAI's deprecations page says access to gpt-4 was shut down on October 23, 2026 and names gpt-5.6-sol as the substitute model.

OpenAI's pricing page, checked on October 28, 2026, lists gpt-5.6-sol at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens (short context), and notes that "GPT-5.6 Sol's promotional pricing is available at least through November 21, 2026." Among its flagship models, gpt-6-astra is listed at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens (standard processing, short context, with OpenAI's Fast and Ultrafast modes priced higher), and gpt-5.5-pro and gpt-5.4-pro are listed higher, at $30 per million input tokens and $180 per million output tokens.

Anthropic's models page, checked the same day, describes Claude Fable 5.1 as built "for demanding reasoning and long-horizon agentic work", at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens.

By our own arithmetic at those standard rates, every 10 million input tokens plus 1 million output tokens cost $150 on gpt-6-astra or on Claude Fable 5.1. That is only the model bill for one sample volume. The connections to your systems, the tests on your data and the approval steps from the five checks are where most of the work sits, and that is what a build covers.

## Agentforce, an enterprise agent platform, charges per user and per action

Salesforce's Agentforce pricing page, checked on October 28, 2026, lists Max Edition from $550 per user per month, with the Agentforce add-on and 2.75 million Flex Credits per org per year included. Salesforce also sells Flex Credits to pay per action, at $500 per 100,000 credits.

Max Edition is listed for Salesforce's Sales, Service, Sales/Service and Industries editions. By our reading, with Agentforce pricing the bill grows with your headcount and your volume. With a MAGIA Core system built by Catalizadora, you pay for the build by milestones, infrastructure is billed apart at cost, and the code, the data and the accounts stay in your name.

## MAGIA Core puts your autonomous agents in one system in your name

MAGIA Core is how we build AI agents for your entire operation, in one system. In 12 weeks we merge your scattered systems into one, built around how your people work, and it ends up in your name. MAGIA Core is designed for companies of 20 to 300 people that run on five or more systems that don't talk to each other.

- **Sales that never slip.** Every inquiry from WhatsApp, web or email lands in one place, the AI answers on the spot with your prices and your rules, and the delicate ones go to your team with full context.
- **Collections without chasing anyone.** Invoices, payment links and reminders go out on their own, and you see who owes, how much and since when.
- **What you already use, connected.** Your ERP, CRM, accounting system and spreadsheets get connected, and your historical data is migrated without losing records.

Every week there is a live demo with your team, running on your data instead of mockups. Your data lives in a database in your name with role-based access, and the code, data, domain and access are yours from the start. You pay by milestones, with training per department and 6 months by your side after handover.

If you want your MAGIA Core system to stay hosted and operated by Catalizadora, that requires an active plan, from 99 USD a month. The MAGIA Core page counts more than 500 projects built, more than 100,000 clients served by AI and 5 countries running, and Catalizadora is an official Anthropic Partner.

## Preguntas frecuentes

### What should I look for in the best autonomous AI agent for business?

Look for an autonomous AI agent that does a job that needs judgment, works inside your real systems, is tested on your own data, asks a person before high-risk actions, and has a monthly cost you can model. OpenAI's guide "A practical guide to building agents" recommends evals to set a performance baseline and human oversight for sensitive, irreversible or high-stakes actions, such as authorizing large refunds or making payments.

### How much does an autonomous AI agent cost per month on the GPT API?

It depends on how many tokens the agent uses each month. OpenAI shut down access to gpt-4 on October 23, 2026 and names gpt-5.6-sol as its substitute, listed at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens (OpenAI says GPT-5.6 Sol's promotional pricing is available at least through November 21, 2026), while gpt-6-astra, one of its flagship models, is listed at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens and its pro models, such as gpt-5.5-pro, at $30 and $180 (OpenAI deprecations and pricing pages, checked October 28, 2026). By our arithmetic, 10 million input tokens plus 1 million output tokens on gpt-6-astra cost $150.

### What is the difference between an AI chatbot and an autonomous AI agent?

An autonomous AI agent uses the model to run the task: it decides the next step, uses tools to read and change your systems, and hands control back to a person when it fails. OpenAI's "A practical guide to building agents" says simple chatbots, single-turn LLMs and sentiment classifiers are not agents.

### Should autonomous AI agents for enterprises act without human approval?

Not for every action. OpenAI's "A practical guide to building agents" recommends human oversight for sensitive, irreversible or high-stakes actions, such as canceling orders, authorizing large refunds or making payments, until confidence in the agent grows, and escalation to a human when the agent exceeds its retry limits.
