# Neurologist Patient Follow-Up: Bring Lapsed Patients Back

> Neurologist patient follow-up: set the next visit before the patient leaves, ask for WhatsApp permission, remind a day before and let patients rebook anytime.

How should you handle neurologist patient follow-up after the visit, and how do you bring back the patients who stopped coming? Set the next visit before the patient leaves, ask for permission to message them on WhatsApp, send a reminder the day before and let patients rebook on WhatsApp at any hour. Clinical questions stay with you, and the scheduling work goes to an assistant.

With MAGIA Solo from Catalizadora, that assistant answers your WhatsApp day and night, books into your calendar and sends the reminder a day before. The system is ready in 15 days, set up in your name.

## Neurologist patient follow-up starts before the patient leaves your office

Epilepsy care is one example of follow-up planned at the visit. NICE, the body that publishes clinical guidelines for England, says in its epilepsy guideline NG217 (last updated 5 August 2026) that when starting an add-on treatment you should "carefully titrate the additional medicine and review treatment frequently". NICE guideline NG217 (recommendation 4.4.1) also says to "arrange regular (at least annual) monitoring reviews" for adults with epilepsy and conditions such as drug-resistant epilepsy or a learning disability.

For the patients on that list, the follow-up date belongs in the visit, not in the patient's memory. Before the patient walks out, the next appointment goes into your calendar. NICE also asks clinicians to explain to people with epilepsy that they "can ask for a review of their care if they have concerns, need support or their care needs change" (recommendation 4.4.4) and to provide "contact details and information on how to access epilepsy services".

## Forgetfulness is one of the main reasons patients miss appointments

A Cochrane review (Cochrane is a global, independent network that reviews and combines health studies) by Gurol-Urganci and colleagues (2013, indexed by the US National Library of Medicine) states: "Patients' forgetfulness is one of the main reasons for missed appointments." The Cochrane review also says missed appointments lead "to delays in diagnosis and appropriate treatment".

The Cochrane review included eight randomised controlled trials with 6,615 participants on mobile phone text message reminders (SMS and MMS) for healthcare appointments in general, not neurology alone. Attendance was 67.8% in the groups with no reminders and 78.6% in the groups with text message reminders, and the authors describe the evidence as low to moderate quality. The Cochrane authors found that text reminders had a similar effect to phone call reminders and cost less.

Neurology clinics miss patients too. A retrospective review of neurology clinics from July 2013 through September 2018 (Elkhider and colleagues, Healthcare, 2022, indexed by the US National Library of Medicine) found "60,012 (84%) show and 11,166 (16%) no-show patients" and that "With each day increase in lead time, odds of no-show increased by a factor of 1.0019 (p < 0.0001)." Its results state: "There was no difference in odds of no-show between new or follow-up appointments."

With MAGIA Solo, the appointment reminder is part of the booking itself. However far ahead the visit is booked, the reminder goes out on its own a day before, without anyone at the front desk having to remember it.

## Ask for WhatsApp permission at the visit, because Meta's rules decide whether you can message patients

Meta's WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy (last updated September 23, 2026) says you may only contact people who gave you their mobile phone number or username and from whom you "have received opt-in permission" confirming "that they wish to receive subsequent messages or calls from you." Meta's policy also says you must respect every request to block or opt out, made on or off WhatsApp. The visit is the natural moment to ask patients for that opt-in permission.

When a patient who gave permission writes back to your message, MAGIA Solo answers day and night and books the visit into your calendar.

## Lapsed patients can rebook on WhatsApp at any hour

Start with your own calendar and list the patients whose follow-up date has passed, who have not booked again and who gave you permission to message them on WhatsApp, then send each one a short, personal message asking whether they want to book their follow-up visit. Call the patients who have not given you permission on a regular phone line instead. A patient who replies at 10 pm can book at 10 pm.

When a patient replies to your message, MAGIA Solo takes over. The assistant answers day and night, offers your open slots, books the visit into your calendar and sends the reminder a day before. If you charge upfront, the assistant sends a payment link in the same chat to save the spot.

The assistant stays within what it knows about your practice. When a query gets sensitive or falls outside its scope, it hands it to you instead of improvising. ## MAGIA Solo runs your practice's WhatsApp, calendar and reminders in 15 days

MAGIA Solo is built for professionals and small businesses, doctors, clinics and practices among them. In 15 days Catalizadora hands you a system that answers, books and gets you paid. From day 4 to day 8 the assistant learns from your real information (services, prices, the way you talk), and before delivery you test it until it sounds right.

From day 9 to day 12, appointments, payments and your dashboard are connected and tested with real cases. From day 13 to day 15 you get three training sessions, a simple manual and everything in your name. Your dashboard shows clients, appointments and sales on one screen, with your clients on a board by stage and your WhatsApp conversations in the same inbox, and if a prospect stops replying, the assistant follows up on its own.

MAGIA Solo is a one-time payment of 4,500 USD, with training and 6 months by your side included. Monthly operations (the servers where your system runs and the AI that answers) are paid at cost, directly to the providers and in your name. If you want your system to stay hosted and operated by Catalizadora, that requires an active plan, from 99 USD a month.

Code, data, domain, accounts and even the keys are in your name from day one. Catalizadora has built more than 500 projects, its AI has served more than 100,000 clients and its systems run in 5 countries, according to the MAGIA Solo page.

The patients who are due for a follow-up already know you. See how the assistant answers, books and reminds them on the [MAGIA Solo page](/en/magia/solo).
